City of London Freemen’s School has been highly commended by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) following its full inspection in October 2025. Inspectors confirmed that the School meets all Independent School Standards, recognising Freemen’s as a community where pupils achieve exceptional academic success within a caring, supportive and ambitious environment.

The report praised the School’s outstanding leadership and governance, highlighting the clear strategic vision of governors and senior leaders, and their strong focus on pupil wellbeing and achievement. Teaching and learning were described as both challenging and nurturing, inspiring pupils to think deeply, take intellectual risks and excel across the curriculum.

Inspectors also celebrated Freemen’s exceptional approach to emotional wellbeing, describing it as a “significant strength of the school.” Pupils were found to be confident, kind, and respectful, thriving in a culture that values inclusion, creativity and community. The School’s safeguarding procedures and high-quality boarding provision were also singled out for particular praise.

Roland Martin, Headmaster of City of London Freemen’s School, said:

“As someone who is often invited to inspect by ISI, I know just how rare – and how hard-earned – it is for a school to be recognised for a significant strength. That makes this report especially rewarding to read. I am immensely proud of my colleagues for their dedication and care, which ensure Freemen’s remains the warm, ambitious, and caring community reflected in these findings. I would also like to thank our parents and pupils for their continued support of everything we do at Freemen’s.”

The ISI concluded that Freemen’s provides an outstanding education where pupils truly “learn, lead and make a difference.”
