Learning at Freemen’s

Lessons at Freemen’s are lively, challenging and full of curiosity. Strong relationships and expert teaching help every pupil flourish.

Shaping Future Thinkers

We embrace creativity, innovation and thoughtful use of technology. Pupils learn to navigate AI responsibly, think independently and work collaboratively.

Our Curriculum

Built on four pillars- Academic, Pastoral, House and Co-Curricular – the curriculum encourages progress, confidence and ambition.

Growth Beyond the Classroom

Pupils explore sport, arts, leadership and wider interests through our extensive co-curricular programme and first-class facilities.

Inclusive Learning

Our Inclusive Learning team provides targeted support to help pupils develop study skills, self-regulation and strategies for success.

The Freemen’s Pathway

We continually refine and evolve learning at Freemen’s to meet the needs of our pupils and the world they are growing into.

Our refreshed curriculum from 2026 will help pupils Learn, Lead and Make a Difference – with digital portfolios, expanded subject choices, more teacher time and skills for the modern world. Key enhancements will include:

  • Freemen’s Yearbook – a digital portfolio for each pupil, helping them reflect on achievements, personal growth and next steps, guided by tutors acting as learning coaches.
  • More contact time – increased time with teachers and tutors for consistent support, guidance and progress.
  • Wider subject choice – Double Award Science and an additional optional subject at GCSE; up to four A Levels at Sixth Form without reduction in teaching time.
  • Extended school day – lessons from 8.30am to 4.10pm, creating more space for learning, enrichment and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Digital confidence – thoughtful use of technology and AI, developing creativity, responsibility and modern skills.

These enhancements strengthen independence, curiosity and problem-solving – equipping pupils to thrive at university, in their careers and in life.
