Community & Partnerships

Making a difference has been part of Freemen’s since we were founded in Brixton in 1854. Today, service, partnership and giving remain central to our culture – in the classroom and far beyond it.

Supporting our community

Pupils and staff volunteer widely across the local area, offering time, skills and friendship. From supporting local schools in maths, science, languages and sport, to fundraising and community service projects, meaningful engagement is part of everyday school life.

One of our flagship initiatives is the Refugee Buddy Club, run with the Epsom and Ewell Refugee Network. Freemen’s pupils offer one-to-one English support and friendship to refugee children from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria, while their parents receive English lessons from Freemen’s teachers.

Working with Partners

As part of the City of London family of schools, our pupils benefit from shared expertise, events and experiences – including maths partnerships, joint music concerts and collaborative art projects.

Pupils also lead sustainability initiatives across campus. Our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award (2022) recognises their commitment to making Freemen’s more environmentally friendly, with a focus on reusing and recycling wherever possible.
