Creativity takes centre stage

Performing arts sit at the heart of life at Freemen’s – and contributing to an inclusive, joyful community culture helps pupils grow in confidence, collaboration and self-expression.

From choirs and concerts to large-scale productions, pupils of all ages are encouraged to take part, stretch their creativity and perform with confidence – whether on stage, behind the scenes or in the orchestra pit.

Drama

Drama is vibrant and inclusive. It begins in the curriculum in the early years and becomes a dedicated subject from Year 7, with options for GCSE and A Level Drama.

Productions range from large-scale musicals to outdoor theatre and festival work. Recent shows include Titanic the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, an outdoor A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and There’s a Leak at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Freemen’s alumni continue into leading drama schools and careers in theatre, film and television – including BAFTA and Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield.

Music

Music is for everyone – from beginners to advanced performers.

Pupils enjoy class music lessons up to age 14, and can choose GCSE and A Level Music from Year 10 onwards.

Around one-third of pupils take individual instrumental lessons, rising to 75% in the Junior School. Our annual Try Before You Buy Instrument Fair helps pupils explore and choose an instrument that inspires them.

Ensembles include:
Choirs · Orchestras · Brass & string ensembles · Jazz bands · Chamber Music Programme

Music Scholarships are available for Years 7, 9 and 12.
