Our school came together to celebrate European Day of Languages with a day filled with creativity, community and plenty of dancing!

Pupils put their creativity to the test by baking a wonderful selection of language-themed treats for two special bake sales. The Junior School sale took place during breaktime, followed by a Senior School bake sale at lunchtime. From cakes and cupcakes to biscuits and doughnuts, pupils showcased their baking skills with imaginative designs inspired by languages and cultures from around the world. The treats were judged before being sold to pupils across the school, with all proceeds going towards a very special cause.

With the sun shining, the celebrations continued outside Main House with a lively Zumba session. Led by two Sixth Form pupils, the activity brought pupils from across the school together to dance, have fun and celebrate languages and cultures through music. The soundtrack included Dai Dai, this year’s famous World Cup song, creating a fantastic atmosphere as pupils danced together in the sunshine.

The day was not only about celebrating linguistic diversity and the enjoyment of learning languages, but also about making a positive difference. Thanks to the generosity of pupils and the wider school community, an amazing £400 was raised through the bake sales. The money will be donated to Fundación Pies Descalzos, a Colombian charity founded by Shakira that works to expand access to quality education and create opportunities for children and young people across Colombia. The Foundation works with communities to support education, school infrastructure and wider opportunities for children and young people.

A huge well done to everyone who helped make the day such a success – from the pupils who baked and bought the delicious treats, to those who organised the bake sales and led the Zumba session. It was a fantastic celebration of languages, cultures and community, while also raising money for an important cause.
