Joining Freemen’s
- Freemen’s warmly welcomes new students at 7+ (Year 3), 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9), and 16+ (Sixth Form). We may also be able to offer places for other year groups, depending on availability.
- We are unable to accept students into Year 11 or Year 13.
- Boarding places are available for students joining at 13+ (Year 9), 14+ (Year 10, subject to availability) and 16+ (Year 12).
We are an academically selective school, but we are looking for more than just good grades. We are committed to supporting each pupil as they explore and develop their individual talents, whether in the classroom, the arts, sport, or through other co-curricular activities. Our goal is to cultivate the confidence, curiosity, independence, and wisdom that will enable our students to thrive at every stage—whether preparing for Senior School, Sixth Form, or life beyond Ashtead. In our warm, supportive environment, we help every child find their path.

Myth #1: “My child will only get in if they’re an academic genius!”
Bright minds thrive at Freemen’s, but success here isn’t about being a genius - it’s about curiosity, hard work, and great teaching. Yes, our students achieve top results, but that’s because they’re supported to reach their full potential.
If your child’s teachers recognise their potential and academic ability, chances are they’ll thrive here. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back; apply and see what’s possible!
Myth #2: “Freemen’s isn’t a sporty school.”
Think Freemen’s isn’t sporty? Think again. With a packed fixture list across rugby, netball, football, hockey, and cricket—played on our stunning 57-acre campus—sport is at the heart of life here. Add our award-winning 25m swimming pool and a history of team successes, and it’s clear we take sport seriously.
But sport at Freemen’s isn’t just for elite athletes—it’s for everyone. Whether competing at the highest level or simply staying active and having fun, every student is encouraged to get involved. Sport sharpens the mind, builds resilience, and nurtures leadership and teamwork—skills that prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
Myth #3: “Freemen’s is a STEM school, so my child won’t fit in.”
Think Freemen’s is all lab coats and equations? Think again. While we excel in STEM, we’re just as passionate about the Arts and Humanities, with state-of-the-art facilities for Art, Drama, and Music.
We welcome students who shine in any discipline—whether they’re budding scientists, talented musicians, or aspiring writers. Our community thrives on diverse talents, and every student’s strengths are celebrated. At Freemen’s, there’s no one way to succeed—only your child’s own path to discover.
Myth #4: “Freemen’s is an academic hothouse.”
Think Freemen’s is an academic hothouse? Think again. Freemen’s is where ambition meets balance. Our students work hard because they love to learn, not because they’re pressured to perform. We focus on fostering a culture of self-motivation and personal growth, not stress and competition.
Here, learning happens everywhere—from football pitches to drama studios—because we believe real success is about developing skills for life, not just acing exams. At Freemen’s, education is as inspiring as it is rigorous.
