City of London Freemen’s School is celebrating the achievements of its Upper Sixth cohort today as pupils receive their A Level results and prepare to take the next steps on their individual journeys. 

The 2026 cohort has achieved strong results across a broad range of subjects, with 89% of grades awarded at A*–B, 67% at A*–A, and 27% at A*. 

For the third consecutive year, more than two-thirds of all grades achieved at Freemen’s have been awarded at A* or A, demonstrating the consistency of academic achievement across the School. 

The results also highlight the breadth of Freemen’s Sixth Form curriculum, with particularly strong outcomes across Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Design Technology, Classical Civilisation, Philosophy, Ethics and Religion (PER), Latin, Geography and Psychology, alongside a range of creative and technical subjects. 

Among the subject highlights, Design & Technology achieved 83% A*–A and 100% A*–B, while Further Mathematics pupils achieved 74% A*–A and 95% A*–B. Latin students achieved 75% A*–A across a substantial cohort. 

Headmaster Roland Martin said: “Today is about celebrating our pupils and everything they have achieved during their time at Freemen’s. These results are the product of real commitment and hard work, and I am particularly pleased that we have maintained such a strong and consistent level of achievement for a third consecutive year. Just as importantly, we are seeing success across such a broad range of subjects, reflecting the opportunities our pupils have to discover what they enjoy and where their strengths lie. We are very proud of this year’s cohort and all they have contributed to the life of the School.” 

Girls and boys succeeding across the curriculum 

Girls at Freemen’s have achieved particularly strongly across a wide range of subjects, with two-thirds achieving A* in Design & Technology and Business, and half achieving A* in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Girls also achieved strongly in Psychology, PER, and French. 

These results reflect the strength of Freemen’s co-educational community, where every pupil is encouraged and supported to pursue their ambitions and fulfil their potential. 

Freemen’s boys also achieved strongly across a broad range of subjects, with half achieving A* in Classical Civilisation, English Literature, Geography, Latin and PER. Together, these results highlight the breadth of opportunity within Freemen’s co-educational Sixth Form, where pupils are encouraged to pursue subjects according to their interests and strengths rather than traditional expectations. 

“This has been a wonderful group of young people to work with,” said Head of Sixth Form Rachel Keightley. “They have approached their Sixth Form years with curiosity, determination, and a real willingness to make the most of the opportunities around them. We are delighted to see such strong results across such a diverse range of subjects and to see both our girls and boys succeeding across areas of the curriculum that reflect their individual interests and ambitions. Our support for pupils doesn’t stop with their results; we work closely with every pupil to help them understand their options and navigate an increasingly complex higher education and careers landscape, whether their next step is university, an apprenticeship, or another pathway.” 

Strong results for Freemen’s boarders 

Freemen’s boarding pupils also achieved particularly strong results this year. The School’s 13 boarders achieved 34% of their grades at A*, with every boarder achieving A*–C grades. 

The results highlight the academic success of Freemen’s small, supportive boarding community alongside its strong pastoral provision. 

A wide range of destinations 

As Freemen’s pupils take their next steps, the majority are progressing to Russell Group universities, including the University of Oxford, while others are heading to universities in the USA, Canada, and Hong Kong. One pupil is progressing to an apprenticeship. 

The breadth of destinations reflects the range of interests across the cohort, with 49 pupils progressing to STEM-related courses, including nine to engineering and three to medicine, alongside 13 pursuing history and politics-related courses and 14 economics. Other pupils will continue their studies in Fine Art and other creative disciplines, reflecting the diversity of interests and aspirations within the cohort. 

The School’s Sixth Form and university guidance teams have worked closely with pupils throughout the year to help them navigate an increasingly complex higher education and careers landscape. Pupils receive individual advice and support as they consider university, apprenticeships and other pathways, helping them to make informed choices about their futures. 

Celebrating the whole Freemen’s experience 

Beyond their academic studies, Freemen’s Sixth Formers make a significant contribution to School life through leadership, music, drama, sport, debating, charity fundraising and mentoring younger pupils. These experiences sit alongside academic achievement to develop confidence, resilience, creativity, and a sense of responsibility, helping prepare our pupils for life beyond school.

As this year’s Upper Sixth pupils move on to the next stage of their journey, Freemen’s is proud of all they have achieved and looks forward to seeing the difference they will make in the years ahead.
