We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Lucie, who has been selected for the London Pulse U15 Academy.
This accomplishment is particularly remarkable as Lucie is currently still an U13 player, competing and excelling well above her age group. Earlier this season, she was selected for the Surrey U15 Academy a year ahead of schedule, and her latest selection is testament to the exceptional progress she has made throughout the year.
Lucie has also played a pivotal role in Freemen’s netball success this season. She was a key member of the U14 team that won the National SistersnSport Bowl competition in Loughborough in March, where she was named Player of the Match in the final.
Reflecting on her London Pulse Academy selection, Lucie said:
“I was both shocked and delighted. I was already honoured to be selected from the U15 Surrey Academy to attend the Pulse trial, so I was a little overwhelmed to be chosen.”
Lucie’s passion for netball began at Freemen’s and has continued to flourish thanks to the opportunities and support available through the school’s netball programme.
“I enjoy the camaraderie of being part of a team, and working to improve as a group every game,” she explained. “I love the pace, physicality and excitement of netball. I started my netball journey at Freemen’s in games lessons, and the supportive, encouraging environment fostered a love for the game which has continued to grow.”
She credits the school with helping her develop both as a player and as an individual.
“Freemen’s has supported my development through coaching and guidance during PE, but also by challenging me with opportunities to play with different teams and year groups. Freemen’s nominated and encouraged me to attend County trials with Surrey two years ago, which was the start of the pathway to Pulse. The teaching staff have been a constant source of guidance and counsel.”
Lucie also highlighted the support she has received from the wider school community throughout her journey.
“I was particularly inspired by the degree of support we received from the whole school community when we played our final qualifying match in the SistersnSport Bowl against Caterham. The atmosphere was incredible. I was very proud to represent the school in the Bowl finals at Loughborough. It was a day I’ll never forget.”
She added: “Freemen’s has instilled in me that, win or lose, it’s most important how we play the game as a team. To name a few, thank you Mrs Marchant, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Shaill and Mr Deakin.”
Balancing elite-level sport alongside school commitments is no easy task, but Lucie is grateful for the support she receives from staff across the school.
“Freemen’s have been completely supportive and understanding in helping me meet the opportunities presented at school, club and county level. Many of my teachers have kindly given me support in their own time or helped me catch up when sporting commitments have clashed academically. I am incredibly grateful for this unrelenting support and patience from my teachers.”
Looking ahead, Lucie remains focused on continued improvement and embracing every opportunity that comes her way.
“I am trying to enjoy the journey as much as I can, keeping focused on improvement, working hard and the next step. The SistersnSport Club National Finals in the summer is the next challenge. I’m excited to see where I can get to over the next few years. The ultimate dream would be to play for England Roses!”
Lucie is an exceptional netballer whose dedication, determination and positive attitude have earned this well-deserved recognition. Everyone at Freemen’s is incredibly proud of her achievements so far and looks forward to following the next chapter of her exciting netball journey.
