We are delighted to welcome David Harry as Assistant Head (Head of Junior School) from September 2024. Stepping into the shoes of the current Head, Matt Robinson, after his successful leadership is an unenviable task but Mr Harry will bring a dynamic and innovative approach to his leadership here.

Mr Harry’s extensive background in education and voluntary service positions will enable him to contribute significantly to the academic growth and overall well-being of our students.

“We are thrilled to welcome David Harry to the team and are confident that under his guidance, our students will continue to thrive and excel,” said Headmaster, Roland Martin. “His dedication to academic excellence, coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for student well-being, will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the continued success of our school community.”

Currently Deputy Head (Academic) at Longacre School, Mr Harry has overseen all academic matters, curriculum design, provision for outdoor learning and educational assessments. His passion for collaborative leadership is evident, emphasising the belief that working together fosters robust, resilient teams driven by shared objectives and mutual respect, capable of achieving remarkable accomplishments.

Notably, Mr Harry has previously served as Head of Prep School, Head of Maths, and Head of Sport, where he was able to indulge his passion for instilling a love of lifelong learning, whilst teaching across all year groups. His involvement as an Advisory Board Member at Elysian Animal Assisted Therapy showcases his commitment to supporting educational transitions, with a focus on teaching and learning, outstanding pastoral provision, and evidencing pupil progress.

Mr Harry commented: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Freemen’s community, where the passion for a holistic education that allows children to meet and exceed their potential is tangible. Freemen’s is a school I have long been aware of and the school’s philosophy and values, capturing that all important sense of childhood innocence whilst being academically ambitious (and having fun!), naturally aligns with my ethos and approach. I am very much looking forward to meeting the whole school community over the coming months.”

In addition to his educational roles, Mr Harry has served as a dedicated school Governor at a local school, overseeing pupil premium, computing and mathematics initiatives. Beyond his professional commitments, he embraces an active lifestyle as a sports enthusiast, frequently navigating the picturesque landscape of the Surrey Hills on two wheels or riding the waves of Wales when the weather permits! A regular on the football pitch, Mr Harry supports the mighty red devils – Manchester United – off the pitch.
