We enjoyed the very first Freemen’s Shakespeare Conference this week, just a few days after the famous bard’s birthday. With the theme of “Liberty and Tyranny”, the academic conference was dedicated to celebrating the wonderful world of Shakespeare.

We were pleased to welcome several esteemed academic keynote speakers to the event; Professor Emma Smith (Hertford College, University of Oxford) Professor Brian Cummings (University of York) and Professor Nicholas Grene (Trinity College Dublin).

The day was spent sharing research papers written by Freemen’s students and staff, as well as students from invited schools. The quality of the papers was very impressive and students left the conference buzzing with many new ideas about the famous playwright.

A big thank you to our Head of English, Dr Markus Klinge, for providing such a unique opportunity for Freemen’s students, staff to get together with university professors and share their ideas and their own research on the literary works of Shakespeare.
