Freemen’s Pupil Athlete Support Scheme (PASS) has teamed up with a number of experts in their field for a series of seminars for our student athletes.
Lead by PE teacher and head of PASS, Peter McKee, the seminars are designed to help and offer guidance to student athletes with their holistic development in the academia, sports, recovery and social lives.
Under the scheme there are currently 35 students from across 16 different sports.
The seminars kicked off in February with a talk from England and Great Britain Hockey player, Nick Park who shared his life experiences as a high-performance international athlete, the 2023 Hockey World Cup, non-negotiable habits, 1%ers, nutrition and sleep.
Mr McKee said: “Nick was absolutely fantastic and gave all the pupils an amazing experience and provided them with some golden nuggets of information that will help them in their lives and their sports for the future.”
The seminars will cover a number of different topics that the 35 PASS students highlighted as an area they wanted to know more about. These included:
- Importance of Sleep
- Intrinsic motivation to achieve a goal
- The Importance of Target Setting
- Positive relationships in sport with teammates and coaches
- Nutrition
The next seminar will come from Sporting Elite USA, a talent evaluation service that guides student athletes and their families through the complexities of the US college recruiting process.
Director, Rob Thomas, will talk about how they help promote students to all colleges in the USA and provides help to families through every step of the process from putting together an athlete profile and video footage all the way through to guidance with the US visa process.
