As the dust settles on A-Level results day, it is with immense pride that we reflect on the remarkable achievements of our students this year.

Freemen’s has always been committed to fostering excellence, and this year’s results are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our entire school community.

Record-Breaking Results

This year, Freemen’s students have set new records, with 92% of grades awarded at A* - B – the highest in my nine years. Furthermore, 71% of grades were A* - A, a percentage we haven’t seen since 2015. Perhaps most impressively, 31% of all grades achieved were A* – a level we have not reached since 2017.

These figures reflect not just the talent of our students but the incredible support provided by our Sixth Form team, Heads of Departments, tutors, and teachers. A special mention goes to the 14 students who achieved three or more A*s and the 50 students who earned three or more A* and A grades.

These outcomes are a clear indication of the rigorous academic environment at Freemen’s, where students are pushed to reach their full potential.

A Level Playing Field

In contrast to last year’s results, which were influenced by adjustments to grading, this year’s results represent a “fair fight.” The significant improvements over last year’s figures – a 7% increase at A* to B and a 10% increase at A* to A – underscore the hard work and determination of our students and staff.

University Success

The positive results have translated into success in university placements as well. As of this morning, 86 students have secured their firm choice of university, while another 6 are heading to their insurance options.

Beyond the Grades: A Cohort to Remember

It is essential to remember that our students are far more than just their grades. This cohort has contributed significantly to the broader life of the school. They have excelled not only academically but also in music, drama, sport, and leadership, all while supporting one another through challenging times. Their contributions to House activities, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) have enriched the school community.

These students embody the values we hold dear at Freemen’s, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements, both in and out of the classroom.

A Word of Thanks

Heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to this year’s success. Special thanks go to Paul, Suffiah, Sarah, and Lucy Ryckaert for their work in managing the data, and to our Heads of Departments for their ongoing support of our students.

Finally, I want to share the words of our Chair of Governors, Philip, who was “absolutely thrilled” with the results and sends his warmest congratulations and thanks to everyone involved.

This year’s results are a cause for great celebration, and we look forward to building on this success in the years to come.
