Freemen’s Diversity and Equality Committee has been very active since it was convened in January, and this term pupils participated in Schools Diversity Week as part of our ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity and promoting equality.

Pupils engaged with tutorials and assemblies focusing on inclusivity in its broadest sense: race, gender, faith, sexuality, neurodiversity and disability; students and staff across the school celebrated diversity by wearing rainbow colours to raise awareness and support the LGBTQ+ community.

Inspired by the BLM movement and changes in wider society, Freemen’s Diversity and Equality Committee was formed by Freemen's students this academic year, with the aim to promote an environment of open debate and discussion about current social issues and a forum through which students can feed their ideas to back to teachers.

The Council is keen to use the opportunity of being in an educational setting to be a positive influence in the Freemen’s community and there has been a great response from fellow pupils, with many enthusiastic to get involved.

Member of the Diversity and Equality Committee, Mia, explains what the understanding and acceptance of every gender, race, culture and religion means to the committee, “as a council, it is important for us to understand and reflect the world that we’ll be going into following our time at Freemen’s.”
