On 22 November Freemen’s hosted a GCSE Revision conference for students from Reigate Grammar, St George’s Ascot and Trinity School Sevenoaks, as well as Freemen’s students, on a range of ethical and philosophical issues.

The GCSE Philosophy, Ethics and Religion Conference was led by Dr Peter Vardy, a renowned speaker; key international author in this field; and someone who has inspired countless students about philosophical and ethical ideas through his talks and writings.

The aim of the day was to provide a time for revision of GCSE ideas, as well as to inspire students about the subject as an A Level option. Sessions were focussed on areas such as Who Was Jesus?, Sanctity of Life, Just War Theory and other topics related to the GCSE course. The sessions also provided an excellent opportunity for students to mix with students from other schools who are also taking the subject at GCSE.

One Lower 5 student said of the day: “I really enjoyed the Sanctity of Life talk about genetics, cloning and euthanasia as it was really interesting and the ethics behind these issues aren’t really spoken about that often.”
