Freemen's boarders planted a tree as part of the Boarding Schools' Association 'Boarding Orchard'.
On a cold and drizzly day in December, the Headmaster, Roland Martin, accompanied by the Head of Boarding, Jemima Edney, welcomed Robin Fletcher, Chief Executive of the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), to plant a tree outside the boarding house.
Despite the pouring rain, a Liquidambar (styraciflua Worplesdon) tree was planted by some of our Sixth Form boarders and was the 133rd tree planted as part of the BSA’s ‘Boarding Orchard’. This initiative was launched by the BSA in 2014 and now spans schools in seven different countries with trees symbolising the ‘tree of knowledge’ and demonstrating a school’s commitment to growth and caring for the environment.
Headmaster, Roland Martin said: “We are delighted to be included in this BSA initiative and hope that, like our students, this tree will thrive and flourish at Freemen’s.”
