One of our U5 students Alden H shares his advice for fellow pupils wishing to pursue a career in aviation and describes some exciting opportunities he has been afforded as a result of volunteering at Brooklands Museum.

"I joined Brooklands Museum Youth Panel after seeing an advert on their website inviting people to interview. As I am very interested in the possibility of pursuing a career in aviation it made sense to start working with an organisation that is 'The Birthplace of British Motor sport & Aviation - Home of Concorde'. Many museums are actively seeking to engage young people and Brooklands has a well-established programme which has lots of great opportunities. I am pleased to have been given the position of Events Manager and I am looking forward to planning my first event in January.

Another benefit of volunteering with Brooklands is that I will be able to attend some great events with them. I was really pleased to have been invited to join the team at The 2018 Youth in Aviation Parliamentary Reception that took place in late November. It was hosted by Baroness Garden of Frognal and organised by The Air League. I spent an inspiring few hours in the House of Lords where I got to talk to some very interesting people who have had long and distinguished careers in aviation. The Air League are also very keen to work with young people from all backgrounds to allow as many people as possible to become involved in aviation and aerospace. It has been suggested that I may get to speak to a London university panel about my experiences as a young person trying to access information and advice about a career in aviation. I am looking forward to that too as it will be another opportunity to work on my presentation skills.

In the meantime, I have put a poster up with contact details on for anyone who is interested in working as a volunteer with Brooklands. If you are passionate about STEM, it's a brilliant place to hang out. They are also supportive of DofE, so you can get some volunteering experience in an interesting environment."
