Our Catering Team have two themed days coming up in January with special menus for a Vegetarian Day on Friday 17 January and a Chinese menu on Friday 24 January to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Vegetarian Day

The School is passionate about increasing the awareness of the importance of having a healthy, balanced diet. One step is to consider the benefits of eating less meat, for personal health benefits in lowering calories and saturated fat intake and the way this would benefit the planet in reducing co2 emissions and reduce water waste. With the population set to rise by 30% by 2050, the demand for meat will be hard to meet. If a target of 10 million people swap the meat in one of their meals for a plant based protein, the impact would be extraordinary.

A Vegetarian Day is becoming a regular feature of the term menus and will include plant based salad bar and baguettes. Chefs have created a tasty menu including quorn taco’s and gnocchi with cheese.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, on Saturday 25 January, is based on the Chinese lunar calendar and lasts for 15 days commencing with families having a traditional dinner and finishing with a Lantern Festival. In the UK, celebrations focus on Chinese food, decorations and parades.

The Chefs from the Sodexo team are planning a feast of Chinese foods to celebrate the day before Chinese New Year on Friday 24 January. The menu includes Chinese Style Chicken & Mushroom Broth, Sweet & Sour Chicken with Water Chestnuts, Egg Fried Rice, Beef & Vegetable Spring Roll, Stir Fried Oriental Vegetables and Prawn Crackers. Vegetarian dishes of Tofu, Pak Choi & Baby Corn in Black Bean Sauce and Vegetable Spring Rolls, plus an Oriental Style Salad Bar. Desserts will be Banana Fritters with Lemon Syrup, Mango & Coconut Mousse, Lychees & Pear in Raspberry Jelly and Fortune Cookies.
