World Book Day 2020

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.

Well Done to all our pupils and staff for the effort in dressing up as famous characters in fantastic outfits.  Leading up to the day, pupils were given the chance to decorate their classroom doors as the front cover of their favourite books. 40 creative door displays were designed and included Room on the Broom, Around the World in 80 Days, War Horse, Life of PI, Peppa Pig, The Gruffalo, the Hungry Caterpillar and Roald Dahl books. There was also a Reading Rocks Competition to decorate a rock as the character or cover from a favourite book. The rocks were displayed in the library and the 5 winning rocks included David Walliams books and Dog Man. 

As 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of Agatha Christie publishing her first novel, the library challenged pupils to a detective game. Clues representing different Agatha Christie books were hidden by departments all around the School and whoever found the most won a prize. An Agatha Christie short story was also told to pupils throughout the day split into 7 parts as part of the Share a Story initative.

Assemblies on the day were based on Book Battles, with pupils presenting a review of their favourite books and reasons why everyone should read them. The most popular book review was then chosen in the battle in Junior and Senior School assemblies.

All week, pupils have had the chance to visit the book fair in the Junior Foyer and a World Book Day quiz for staff and students was held at lunchtime.
